In the event of any discrepancy between the Japanese and English versions, the Japanese version shall prevail.
Official rules for Casual battles (battle rooms) and Quick Match: the fixed Quick Match settings and how leaving and disconnections are handled.
Sections tagged Quick only or Casual only apply to that mode alone. Untagged sections apply to both.
The Service is currently in beta (test release). Only a limited set of features is available and they may change without notice. See Article 4 of the Terms of Service.
The following are not open during the beta. The buttons are still shown, but pressing one only explains why (this is not a bug). We are keeping to the default stages so we can focus on finding and fixing bugs in the battles themselves.
・Stage editor and custom stages — these open at the full release
・Garage (appearance customization) — opens at the full release. If you register a free account during the beta, a limited avatar will be delivered to your Garage at the full release.
Casual (battle rooms) — the host freely chooses player count, ammo, cargo options, stage and time limit.
A room with the turn timer set to "no limit" really has no cap on your thinking time. The one exception is a turn with no aiming or moving at all for 5 minutes: that counts as idle and is passed automatically (otherwise holding your turn and doing nothing would freeze the match). Moving your aim or your tank resets that clock.
Quick Match — a 1v1 that finds an opponent for you without creating a room. Settings are identical for everyone. You play against a CPU until a human opponent is found.
For fairness, these cannot be changed.
| Format | 1v1 |
|---|---|
| Turn time limit | 20 seconds (auto-pass on timeout) |
| Ammo | AP, HE, Triple, Smoke (Warp and Flare are unavailable) |
| Cargo options | Medkit, Energy, Radio, Mine detector, Trajectory scope, Wind scope, Snorkel (Bombing runs and Night vision do not appear) |
| Mines | Enabled |
| Range chart | Enabled |
| Stages | Excludes the three special stages (Floating platforms, Bridge, Blackout) |
Why these are excluded — a bombing run hits whoever happens to be underneath, which is pure luck. Night vision and flares only matter on the Blackout stage, which is itself excluded. Warp is a form of movement that does not exist in reality and does not fit a realistic gunnery duel.
In Quick Match, tanks only start on ground that is thick enough underfoot. You will not be placed on a thin ledge that one shot can collapse, above a cavity, or on the rim of a chasm. Safe distance is also kept from rivers, lava and cliffs.
Casual battles are unchanged, since terrain hazards are part of what makes Casual interesting.
As for sides in team battles, Quick Match always splits the teams into the left and right halves of the screen. The "mixed" placement, where both sides start interleaved, can only be chosen in Casual battles of 2v2 and up.
The number of players waiting and matches in progress is shown next to the Quick Match button. When someone is playing against a CPU they can be pulled in right away, so you will not have to wait.
If your connection drops (accidental)
You do not lose immediately. The match waits 30 seconds for you to reconnect.
Return within 30 seconds and you carry on as normal. If you do not:
| 1v1 | Treated as destroyed. In Quick Match this is a loss |
|---|---|
| 2v2 / 3v3 | A CPU takes over that tank and the match continues |
| Free-for-all | That tank is removed from the field |
If you disconnect while not in a matchCasual only
If you drop after a match has ended, or while waiting in a room, your seat in the room is also held for 30 seconds. Come back and you rejoin that same room (so that a momentary hiccup on your line does not cost you the room). If you do not come back, the seat is released.
If you leave on purpose
There is no grace period; the same handling applies immediately. In Quick Match this is an immediate loss.
Either way — the remaining player is treated exactly as a normal winner.
If you stay connected but do nothingQuick only
Once the turn timer has run out 5 times in a row, the match is treated as abandoned (the same as leaving on your own — a loss). This is so your opponent is not made to spend several minutes finishing off a tank that never moves.
Firing, moving or pressing pass — using your turn in any way — resets the count. Merely moving your aim does not (this stops the "watch the screen and let every turn time out" style of play). Only timeouts are counted; passing on purpose is not. Casual matches are never treated as abandoned, and neither is the CPU match you play while waiting for an opponent (when every opponent is a CPU there is nobody being kept waiting. Leave it running and you will be called over as soon as a human opponent is found).
While the timeouts continue, a chat message tells you how many more would count as abandonment. When a match ends because someone abandoned it, the reason is also left in the winner's chat.
If the match itself ends during the grace
In a 1v1 your tank may be destroyed before you get back, ending the match. Even then your seat is held for those 30 seconds, so coming back puts you in that room's waiting screen. It is not counted as leaving a match either.
The reconnect grace now applies to guests too. When a match starts, a return pass is handed to that device only, and it proves who you are — so your seat can be returned without relying on a name (previously logged-in players only).
That pass lives in that tab only. Reloading the same tab still gets you back, but closing the tab means you cannot return.
If no tank's HP changes for "12 turns per surviving tank" (24 turns in a 1v1), the match is stopped and decided by adjudication. Moving, passing and shots that miss are never counted as progress, no matter how often you repeat them.
Once every human player is down and only CPUs remain, the cutoff drops to "8 turns per surviving tank" (there is no reason to drag out a match nobody is watching). This only comes up in Casual with CPU fill enabled.
Adjudication runs in this order:
A plain draw would mean "the losing side can lock in half a point by stalling", so the match goes to whichever side is ahead.
Quick Match also has a 30 minute time limit as a safety net. Reaching it triggers the same adjudication. The time remaining is shown on the control panel during the match and turns red in the last minute.
When fewer than 6 turns remain before adjudication, a chat message tells you how many are left (the same applies in Casual).
Casual is a place you can leave freely; leaving once puts you at no disadvantage. Note that no score is credited for a match you leave.
The one exception is leaving matches in progress repeatedly in a short time, which locks you out of matches for a while (see "8. Leaving Matches Repeatedly" below). It exists to stop people from bailing out just to keep others waiting; normal play never triggers it.
You are welcome to just chat. That said, if everyone in the room does nothing for 30 minutes, the room is closed and you are returned to the lobby (this keeps the lobby list from filling up with rooms where nothing happens). Chat, changing settings, acting during a match — anything anyone does resets the clock.
The room is never closed without warning. Chat messages appear 5 minutes and 1 minute beforehand, and the time remaining is shown on screen during that window. If anyone acts, the warning is cancelled along with it.
If a room closes in the middle of a match, that match counts for nothing — it is recorded in neither player's history.
Times you leave a match in progress are counted over a 30-minute window. At 3, you cannot join another match for 15 minutes. This applies to both Quick Match and Casual.
| Blocked | Quick Match queue, starting a match in a room, and joining a room |
|---|---|
| Still available | Everything else — lobby, chat, stage editor |
These count:
"Match" here means a match with a human opponent. Leaving a match where every opponent is a CPU is never counted. This rule exists to stop people from ruining other players' matches, so a match where nobody is inconvenienced is out of scope. Neither of these is counted:
A brief drop that you recover from does not count. We cannot tell a closed browser apart from a dropped connection — only whether you came back — so the rule is written that way. During a long outage you could not play anyway, so we do not consider this a real disadvantage.
One or two times does nothing. When you are blocked, the reason and the time remaining are shown on screen.
When a Quick Match ends you can choose to queue for another Quick Match, or return to the lobby.
After a match in a battle room (casual) you choose "Back to room" or "Exit". Only the players who press "Back to room" join the next match. Your seat is held until you choose, so there is no need to rush.
If someone still has not chosen when the host starts the next match, a 10-second join check appears. Pressing "Back to room" during it gets you in (and once everyone is in, the match starts without waiting out the timer). Anyone who does not press goes back to the lobby, and that seat goes to a new arrival or to someone waiting in Quick Match.
Going back to the lobby happens while no match is running, so it is not counted as leaving a match (section 8). The reason is shown on screen.
Kills and wins build up your score.
| Killing an enemy | +100 |
|---|---|
| Winning a match | +500 (everyone on the winning team, even with no kills, and even if you were destroyed first) |
| Killing a teammate | -100 |
| Being destroyed through your own doing (team matches) | -100 |
| Being destroyed (Free-for-all / Ranked Match) | 0 (no penalty) |
A kill counts as yours even without a direct hit, as long as your shot caused it. Shooting the ground out from under someone so that they fall into a ravine, a river, lava or a frozen river, blowing them onto a mine, and killing them with an air strike you called in all pay +100. Conversely, a death that no one's shot caused belongs to no one - being destroyed by the cargo plane's random bombing, an opponent driving into a ravine or a river by themselves, and an opponent destroying themselves all award nothing.
Kills on a CPU are worth less, scaled to how strong it is. Level 5 pays the full amount above, level 1 pays 20% (level 1 = 20%, 2 = 40%, 3 = 60%, 4 = 80%, 5 = 100%). The win bonus is scaled the same way by the average strength of the other side when it is all CPUs. With even one human opponent, the table applies as written.
You can line up as many weak CPUs as you like, so if that paid full price the score would stop meaning anything. Titles are still earned regardless of difficulty — only the points shrink. For the same reason, a match with no human on the other side is not recorded in your stats (win rate, accuracy and so on).
Points are deducted whenever your team loses a tank. From the team's point of view, killing a teammate and removing yourself are the same loss, so both cost the same.
"Through your own doing" means any death that no other tank caused. Your own shell or blast, an air strike you called in, driving into a ravine, a river or lava yourself, firing from a submerged turret, and breaking the ice all count. Mines are the one exception: they only count if you drove or warped onto one that the mine detector had already revealed (a mine you cannot see is impossible to avoid, so it costs nothing; being blown onto a mine is not a place you chose either, so it is also exempt). The detector is shared across the team, so if any one teammate is using it you count as being able to see them. The same applies on Blackout Night - if the detector is on, the deduction applies, because you can light the mines up. Deaths caused by an enemy's or a teammate's attack cost you nothing. Falling because an enemy shot the ground away is their achievement (if a teammate's attack kills you, that teammate takes the -100). The cargo plane's random bombing is nobody's fault either, so it is exempt.
Note that blowing a teammate onto a mine and killing them that way costs -100 (whether the mine was visible makes no difference). Your shot is what killed them, so it is treated exactly like killing a teammate directly. The teammate who was blown there takes no deduction - each time the team loses a tank, only the one person who caused it takes the -100.
Free-for-all and Ranked Match (1v1) have no teammates, so being destroyed only puts you at a disadvantage. Being destroyed is price enough on its own, so the score does not move.
On top of this, particular ways of finishing someone earn a title and extra score. Which titles exist is left for you to discover. The ones you have earned, and what they took, are listed on your stats screen.
No score is credited for a match you leave. Target practice is a place to practise, so it awards neither score nor titles.
Touching lava is instant death, but on top of that, simply being near lava drains HP.
Walking straight through usually takes less than a second, so you get away unharmed. Linger beside the lava to line up a shot and it keeps draining the whole time.
The Operator may change these Rules where it deems necessary. Beyond the rules of play, the performance of items and shell types, how scores are calculated, the conditions for earning titles, and how ratings are computed may also be changed for balancing purposes. The amended Rules apply once posted on the Service. When we make a change, we update the "Last updated" date on this page.
